Current activities

Emily develops and maintains UK climate monitoring software and products. This involves improving accessibility, traceability and usability of software used to analyse UK climate observation data. Emily has worked on datasets including the long-running Central England Temperature (CET) series and the gridded observation dataset HadUK-Grid.

As part of the NCIC team, Emily helps to maintain a large array of climate observation products, allowing for near real-time monitoring of the UK climate. The products are used by the public, research bodies, government departments, and the media to understand the climatological context of UK weather and climate events. 

 

Career background

Emily joined the Met Office in 2023 following the completion of her PhD in palaeobiology at the University of Bristol. Prior to this, she completed an MSc in palaeobiology, also at the University of Bristol, a BSc in biology from the University of Sheffield, and worked for four years at the Bodleian Library.
