Languages

Forecasts on the Met Office website are now available in English, Welsh and Scottish Gaelic.

There are currently no plans to extend this service.

Vulnerable and Special Interest Groups

Looking at the weather forecasting needs for more vulnerable groups such as children, seniors and the less able.

No further action required in 2008 therefore revisit in 2012.

Gardening

The provision of weather information for gardeners.

Although recommendations were made and presented to the PWSCG it was decided that any new service would be of little benefit to the public.

No further action required.

Driving & Travelling

The provision of weather information for people driving and travelling in the UK.

Although recommendations were made and presented to the PWSCG it was decided that any new service would be of little benefit to the public.

No further action required.

Mountain Weather Service

Review to ensure the current Mountain Weather Service is meeting the needs of the public & future developments required

Forecasts were added for the Peak District and Yorkshire Dales. Details of risk and impacts are included in the forecast. Forecasts for National Parks.

Revisit in FY2013/14.

Leisure Marine

A review of the services provided for leisure marine users.

Implementation of any new service by 30 November 2011.

Further consultation may be required during 2012.

Tourism

Review of the provision of weather information for tourists and the tourist industry in the UK.

Implementation of any new service by 31 March 2012.

Engagement with the tourist industry on an annual basis.

Tornado

The inclusion of tornado risk information in weather forecasts.

Discontinued Tornado Watch. Public will be warned of Tornadoes, if the risk is high enough, by means of media broadcasts and the Met Office web site.

Options for displaying likelihood and confidence information and the usefulness and understanding of the information.

Temperature Bars are now available on the Met Office web site.

National Severe Weather Warning Service

Review to consider whether the NSWWS is meeting the needs of the public and responder communities in the UK.

The new National Severe Weather Warning Service was launched in March 2011.

Community Resilience

Use of the PWS by emergency & resilience professionals (including within communities).

Consultation is also used to ensure the on-going usefulness of current services. This is achieved by carrying out ad-hoc and annual surveys.
