Met Office Conversations

Met Office Conversations

1 August 2011

This year, instead of our annual conference, we're hosting Met Office Conversations — a series of roundtable debates.

Met Office Conversations bring together thought-leaders and key influencers to discuss topics surrounding our work. The first debate, held in London on11 May, focussed on climate security. It explored how climate science can inform planning and policy.

Topics discussed included how well climate change research is integrated with strategic planning, how science and policymaking can join-up more effectively and what else can be done to inform understanding of how climate change may influence security issues in the UK and internationally.

Future topics for upcoming Met Office Conversations include natural hazards and their impact on the UK and the affect of weather on flying, with a focus on collaborative decision-making in aviation.
