Joint Climate Research Programme

The Joint Climate Research Programme, launched on 17 March 2009, is a Met Office/NERC initiative to strengthen the UK’s world-leading reputation in climate science through a number of projects about how we adapt to the effects of climate change.

Objectives

  • Ensure that the UK has access to internationally competitive tools for forecasting climate and its impacts.
  • Enable closer collaboration between NERC and the Met Office by working to eliminate existing barriers.
  • Develop new activities to address critical gaps in existing national portfolio of climate research.
  • Develop mechanisms to promote the more effective pull-through of research results into improved climate forecasts.

Subjects covered

  • Climate predictions for adaptation.
  • Biogeochemical feedbacks and Earth System modelling.
