About the CCM

First established in 1929, the Conference of Commonwealth Meteorologists (CCM) is a convening body and an informal network of representatives from the National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHS) of countries in the Commonwealth - which meets every four years.

The CCM formally meets every four years to discuss current issues of concerns in the hydro-meteorological field. Invitations are extended to heads of National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs) of Commonwealth Countries or their deputies. Representatives of other relevant Organisations and Institutes are also invited to attend.

CCM 2005 took place in Exeter, U.K. from 14-17 June 2005 on the theme "Working together to improve disaster mitigation and preparedness".

Current projects include:

  • predicting the impact of weather on health, in collaboration with the World Health Organization;
  • modelling climate change and its impacts at regional levels;
  • regional Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) model for Africa;
  • climate observing in South Pacific.
