CHOGM 2005

Two representatives from the CCM attended CHOGM, the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting as well as the Commonwealth People's Forum (CPF) and satellite meetings from 20 to 27 November in Malta.

Barbara Garnier-Schofield (UK) and Saviour Porter (Malta) represented the CCM at these important meetings. Carlos Fuller (Belize), the chairman of the steering committee was prevented from attending by tropical storm Gamma.

Barbara Garnier-Schofield and Saviour Porter used the opportunity of the CPF workshops and the CHOGM side-meetings to raise the profile of the vital work of National Hydro-Meteorological Services (NMHSs) and other professionals in helping governments and society as a whole achieve sustainable development by providing vital expertise in disaster preparedness and mitigation as well as in prediction and adaptation to Climate Change.

They were joined by Dr Dave Griggs (UK) and Dr Joshua Wairoto (Kenya) who addressed the issues of Climate Change impacts in the Commonwealth and Africa at the CPF's Climate Change workshop.
