MetService was set up in 1861 as a storm warning
service, following a spate of shipwrecks. We now gather,
analyse and provide weather information for the public
of New Zealand, and for a wide range of domestic and foreign
commercial customers. |
MetService is a State-Owned
Enterprise, based in Wellington, and provides weather forecasting
services to three main groups:
- The Minister of Transport (for the people of New Zealand).
- Civil and Military Aviation.
- Media and Industry.
The meteorological services we provide, such as forecasts
and official weather warnings on behalf of the Ministry of
Transport and those certified by the Civil Aviation Authority,
are separate from our commercial arm Metra.
Metra is the vehicle for MetService's international commercial
activities, providing services to:
- Media
- Energy industry
- Retail industry
