The Meteorology Division, formerly known as Apia
Observatory since it was established in 1902, is under
the auspices of the Ministry of Natural Resources Environment
and Meteorology. Its mandate and functions: Weather, Hydrology,
Geophysics (Seismology & Geomagnetism), Climate Services,
Climate Change, Geology and Disaster Management. |
Budget support is statutory from government, except project
UNDP/GEF/UNFCCC funding for Climate Change, Ozone and partial
project funding for Disaster Management from a World Bank
project.
Institutionally set up into seven sections in the various
disciplines stated above, with a total staff of 50 people.
