United Republic of Tanzania
United Republic of Tanzania flag The Tanzania Meteorological Agency (TMA) is an Executive Agency under the Ministry of Communications and Transport, established in accordance with the Executive Agencies Act No. 30 of 1997 as the national authority to deal with meteorological matters in Tanzania. It has a workforce of 428 people.

The TMA has a mission to provide quality, reliable and cost effective meteorological services to stakeholders' expectations thereby contributing to the protection of life and property and national poverty eradication goal.

The TMA has two major categories of services, namely public services that include essential and mandatory services such as warnings of hazardous weather, and functions in fulfilment of Tanzanian's obligations to international conventions. The second category is tailor-made services for specific sectors, for example aviation, agriculture, energy, water, etc.

For the provision of the above services TMA operates a network of 26 synoptic stations, 13 agrometeorological stations, 100 climatological stations and 600 rainfall stations. These numbers fall short of actual requirements.

TMA's funding is mainly from Government (80%) for public services. The rest of the funding comes from provision of private goods to specific sectors.
