Since 1984, the Met Office has served as one of only two
World Area Forecast Centres (WAFC) for aviation responsible,
with the United States, for providing weather information
to all flights over 24,000 feet. We are also a Regional Specialised
Met Centre (RSMC) for Environmental Emergency Response. Together
with the Toulouse RSMC in France, the RSMC deals with environmental
emergencies for the WMO regions covering Africa and Europe.
Predicting climate change
|
The Met
Office Hadley Centre is a recognised world-leader
in climate change modelling, prediction and research.
The Met Office Hadley Centre's modelling of the atmosphere
and the oceans has a direct impact on governmental
policy decisions. Governments are provided with best
advice on how to mitigate the effects of climate change
in their region, enabling increased warning and contingency
planning.
