October 2006: CCM representatives attend the Commonwealth Foundation workshop on Preparing for Change
The Workshop, set in Mahé, Seychelles on 9-12 October 2006 was co-sponsored by the Seychelles Government and the Commonwealth Secretariat. it aimed to investigate Adaptive Strategies for Climate Change and Disaster Management in the Commonwealth. CCM representatives from Kenya, Mauritius and the Seychelles attended the meeting in order to raise awareness of the key role of the national met services in climate change and adaptation.
November 2005 - CCM representatives attend CHOGM 2005
Two representatives from the CCM attended CHOGM, the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting as well as the Commonwealth People's Forum (CPF) and satellite meetings from 20-27 November in Malta
October 2005: CCM is asked to co-organise a Climate Change Workshop at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM)
Mark Collins, the Director of the Commonwealth Foundation, has invited the CCM to co-organise a Climate Change Workshop in conjunction with the Commonwealth Foundation and Action for Global Climate Community. the workshop, which aims to be the first step towards a Commonwealth Plan of Action for Climate Change to be adopted at the next CHOGM, will take place during the People Forum's Meeting at CHOGM 2005 in Malta in November.
September - October 2005: CCM representative helps drafting a message for the Committee of the Whole
Prior to the CHOGM meeting in November, the Committee of the Whole, a gathering of Commonwealth Senior Officials, met in London to draft the CHOGM Comminiqué. CCM was invited, along with the Civil Society Organisations, to draft a message to be presented to the Committee of the Whole for inclusion in the Communiqué. The CCM's input focused on the importance of mitigating climate change and its impact as well as on disaster mitigation.
23 September 2005: CCM accreditation to the Commonwealth
Following formal application, the CCM has been accredited as an Associated organisation of the Commonwealth. This in turn, allows the CCM to become accredited to this year's Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) which will be held in Malta in November.
August 2005: CCM Statement to be presented to the Commonwealth heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) 2005
Following the Conference of Commonwealth Meteorologists 2005, a statement highlighting the role of National Meteorological and Hydrological Services in disaster mitigation and climate change studies was prepared. The statement will be presented to Commonwealth Senior Officials at the Committee of the Whole in London in October, then at the Foreign Ministers meeting and CHOGM 2005 in Malta in November
