ShelterBox will be the Met Office’s charity partner for the next three years. The charity rapidly delivers ‘aid in a box’ to families affected by disasters across the world. We have sponsored the Prince’s Trust Coach of the Year in the South West award and the Young Achiever of the Year award. We encourage staff to become leaders on Prince’s Trust programmes, such as becoming a Development Coach.
We work with Exeter University on the public lecture series ‘Shaping the Future’ to bring high profile national figures to the region to speak publicly on a variety of topics. Visitors have included Sir Richard Dearlove, former Chief of the Secret Intelligence Service, Dame Carol Black, National Director for Health and Work and James Smith, Chairman of Shell UK.
In 2009 and 2008 we supplied forecasting advice to aid Sir Ranulph Fiennes in his climbs of Everest.
