Rain at last for the south

22 July 2005

Parched areas of southern and south-east England are set to get their first significant rain for many weeks, as Met Office forecasters predict heavy rain spreading from the west through the weekend.

After weeks of dry, warm and sunny weather across much of southern Britain, driving conditions may be quite difficult at times, with the rain causing reduced visibility and slippery roads. Holidaymakers are advised to take the forecast of poor weather conditions into account before making their journeys.

In contrast, Scotland and northern England will see the sunniest, driest weather this weekend — ideal for outdoor activities.
