Northern Britain battens down the hatches

9 November 2005

Met Office forecasters have issued an early warning of severe weather for northern Britain later this week, with winds of 80 m.p.h. forecast for many areas.

Scotland and Northern Ireland look like seeing the worst of the weather during Friday, as another major Atlantic storm tracks across the country.

Weather forecasters are particularly concerned with this weather event as large urban areas such as Glasgow, Belfast and Edinburgh could see disruption from the damaging winds.

The National Severe Weather Warning Service run by the Met Office, gives advice to the public and authorities when severe weather is predicted.
