Christmas weather - don't count on a white Christmas

22 December 2005

The chances of snow falling in the UK on Christmas Day are low, Met Office forecasters said today.

With just a few days to go, the forecast is for the weather to become settled for the Christmas period. In fact, the Met Office is forecasting that it will be frost and fog people will be seeing - not snowflakes. Although snow is very unlikely, people travelling over Christmas are advised to keep in touch with the latest forecast.

On Christmas Day, after an early frost, many places are likely to have some sunshine developing with temperatures ranging from 8 °C in northern and western areas to 5 °C in the east. This weather pattern is set to continue during Christmas week. However, forecasters say there is a increasing chance of wintry showers in south-eastern areas after Boxing Day.
