Appointment of new Chief Executive at the Met Office

Image: Mark HutchinsonMark Hutchinson has today been appointed as the new Chief Executive of the Met Office.

Mark has been the acting CE since June 2005, but from today will formally take up the position on a permanent basis and will lead the organisation until Spring 2007.

In an announcement this morning, Don Touhig MP, the Under Secretary of State for Defence, "I am delighted that Mark has accepted my invitation to lead the Met Office and to continue his excellent work at the head of the world-class organisation. He has my full support as he takes the right steps to build the Met Office’s international reputation for excellence".

John Mitchell, Deputy CE and Chief Scientist at the Met Office, welcomed the announcement, "I'm delighted that Mark has been confirmed in the post, it allows the Met Office to look forward to this important year with confidence".
