Summer hots up

6 June 2006

The warm conditions that many areas of the UK have been experiencing look set to get even hotter through the coming week, Met Office forecasters are predicting.

With high temperatures of 25 °C possible in parts of Northern Ireland and Scotland today, the dry and sunny conditions will continue right through the week. Over the weekend, hot Mediterranean air moves in with temperatures expected to reach a scorching 30 °C in some parts of England and Wales.

The higher temperatures could trigger off a few thunderstorms for some, although there will plenty of strong sunshine on offer. Sea breezes will keep some coasts refreshingly cooler and here there is the chance of some patchy mist.

The weather also looks set to warm up in Germany for the World Cup starting later this week – highs of around 30 °C are expected for England's first match in Frankfurt on Saturday afternoon.
