White Christmas?
20 December 2006
There are still a few days to go and the weather has turned much more seasonal with fog and frost, but it looks set to stay dry and therefore unlikely that any of us in the UK will see a white Christmas.
The Met Office will be monitoring a number of cities across the country to officially declare whether or not it snowed on Christmas Day in each location. You will be able to check this on the UK latest weather page by noon on Boxing Day.
Forecasters are expecting area of dense and, in some places, freezing fog to continue over coming days. It will remain cold, with temperatures close to freezing where fog persists.
With so many of us travelling on the run-up to Christmas and, with the foggy, freezing weather likely to persist, the Met Office is encouraging everyone needing to travel to keep up to date with the latest forecast and prepare accordingly.
The Met Office provides detailed forecasts to airport, road and rail operators. It has a team of dedicated forecasters working side by side with the Highways Agency (HA) to ensure constant updates are available to the travelling public. You can find updated travel advice on the web.
