Met Office launches web gadgets

On Mozilla Firefox the information is presented in a sidebar and is
expandable to include as many of the available options as the
user wants.

The Windows Vista gadget is accessed via the side panel, displaying
the latest weather for a chosen location. Users can also access
additional information such as radar and satellite, via fly-outs.
The Met Office has launched a new dashboard of weather gadgets aimed at allowing users to add and customise information from the Met Office website. The suite of options are free to download and include localised weather forecasts, severe weather warnings, marine warnings and radar images.
The gadgets are mini-applications - available on the Windows Vista operating system or via a Mozilla Firefox browser - that allow users to have automatically updated weather information at a glance, while working on other tasks.
On both Firefox and Vista, clicking on the information will take users to the Met Office website.
The launch of gadgets follows the launch in July of an RSS (Really Simple Syndication) newsfeed of severe weather warnings.
As the UK's National Weather Service the Met Office is responsible for issuing forecasts and severe weather warnings to enable UK citizens to make informed decisions that help protect their life, welfare and property. Gadgets are now an additional source for this information.
