Christmas is coming

Mild, wet and windy conditions over much of the UK this weekend look set to give way to something more seasonal during the Christmas week.

Fog and frost are increasingly likely during next week, although a dry theme to the weather means it is unlikely that any of us in the UK will see snow at Christmas.

Forecasters at the Met Office are expecting areas of dense and, in some areas, freezing fog to last all day as we head towards the festive period.

After a mild weekend, temperatures are expected to fall again and could remain close to freezing where fog persists.

Mike Trigger, Chief forecaster at the Met Office advises: "For those travelling during the run-up to Christmas, fog could be the main problem, and the Met Office is encouraging those on the move to keep up to date with the latest forecast".

Airports, road and rail operators across the UK receive detailed weather forecasts from the Met Office.
