Continuing cold

As wintry conditions continue to affect many parts of the UK through the weekend, the Met Office is warning of freezing overnight temperatures, leading to the risk of widespread ice on untreated roads and pavements.

A respite in the unsettled theme on Saturday will mean many places will be sunny with only a scattering of wintry showers across parts of Scotland and around coastal districts of England and Wales.

However, a band of rain will push across many parts on Sunday, bringing the risk of sleet and snow for a time in northern and central areas, giving up to 5 cm of snow in hilly areas.

Beyond this, the outlook remains wintry, with further spells of rain, sleet or snow for parts of the UK into next week.
