This activity looks at analysing synoptic weather
charts and identifying common synoptic features. Knowledge
of common weather patterns associated with high and
low pressure is also tested.

average climate across the UK and the causes of these
variations, e.g. topography, heat islands, proximity
to the coast. Students' knowledge of contours on maps
is also tested.

This activity looks at the identification of weather
chart features. Students are required to know air
mass characteristics and be able to recognise air
masses from a weather chart.

GCSE project ideas
This section contains a series of exercises designed
for GCSE project work. Topics covered include monitoring
the accuracy of forecasts, microclimate studies and
typical weather conditions during the passage of a
depression. All projects involve an element of data
collection plus data logging and manipulation.
