This service gives you access to the best personnel and the most
advanced dispersion models available - using the bureau eliminates
high set-up and ongoing running costs, and there's no need to purchase
weather data.

Case studies

One of the many studies undertaken
by the Met Office that have involved replicating
the events of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. The
Met Office's long-range dispersion model was used
to assess likely radiation levels in areas of scarce
monitoring data. The model simulated the transport
of the radioactive emissions across western Europe
and into the UK to within a few hours of its observed
arrival time.

Other studies undertaken by the
Met Office involve assessing long-term trans-boundary
impacts of pollution emissions. This chart shows
the deposition of sulphur dioxide emissions throughout
Europe.
