The Big Lunch

The Big Lunch will take place on the 3 June over the Queen's Jubilee celebration weekend.

Events calendar sponsored by AVIS

Local communities will be decorating their streets, community parks and village halls with the Union Jack and brightly coloured bunting to prepare for The Big Lunch and the Big Jubilee Lunch.

In 1977 more than two million people took to the streets in the sunshine to celebrate the Queen's Silver Jubilee and The Big Jubilee Lunch aims for as many people to do the same to celebrate 35 years later.

The Big Lunch is this year hosting its fourth Big Lunch event to bring communities together and has been built into the Queen's Jubilee weekend celebrations.

The Big Lunch

3 June - Check your local forecast if you are hosting or attendee a Jubilee Big Lunch event.

The Big Lunch is a simple idea from the Eden Project. The aim of The Big Lunch is to encourage as many people as possible across the whole of the UK to have lunch with their neighbours in a simple act of community, friendship and fun.

It is the gift of an idea which enables people to get together in their local area and celebrate their community or use the event to raise money for a charity of their choice. Though a date is nominated every year, you can hold a Big Lunch whenever or wherever you like. This year is a special year as we also have a pack for those who would like to celebrate The Big Jubilee Lunch on Sunday 3 June as part of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Weekend celebrations.

You can find out more here at  The Big Lunch website and download a pack to help with your own celebrations.

Types of events that have been organised in the past have included:

  • Street lunches
  • Community games
  • BBQs
  • Street parties including music and dance

You can check the weather forecast for other events through the Events Calendar.
