From 23 July to 3 August, Glasgow  will host the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

This will be the third time Scotland have hosted the Commonwealth Games, but the first time for Glasgow, as the previous two were held in Edinburgh in 1970 and 1986.

There will be 71 nations competing at Glasgow 2014, with 6,500 athletes competing in 17 sports over the 11 days.

The majority of events will take place in and around Glasgow's city centre, however there will be a few exceptions with the shooting taking place on the east coast of Scotland in Carnoustie, and the diving taking place in Edinburgh.

The Games will begin on 23 July with the opening ceremony at Celtic Park, where 3000 cast members will perform to launch Scotland's biggest-ever festival of sport and culture.
