Edinburgh Christmas lights switch on

A city centre Christmas tree lit for the festive season

Christmas will officially begin in Edinburgh on Sunday 24 November when  Edinburgh's Christmas lights are switched on.

The lights switch on celebrations will begin at 14.30 in George Street, with the first performance at 15.00.

Using 'The Twelve Days of Christmas' as the Light Night's theme, over 800 local performers will take to the stage to provide plenty of entertainment to get everyone in the festive spirit.

Six-times Olympic champion cyclist, Sir Chris Hoy will then turn on the Christmas lights, before a spectacular fireworks display finishes the evening at 16.50.

Earlier in the week both the ice skating rink and the Christmas Markets opened, along with numerous rides and attractions, allowing Christmas shoppers to take in the festive sights of the city from the top of the Star Flyer and Big Wheel.
