The lights switch on also marks the start of the late night shopping, which will run in the city each Thursday during the lead up to Christmas. The shops will remain open until 21.00 to allow shoppers to find those ideal Christmas gifts and take in the festive atmosphere under the lights.

Check the local Exeter weather to see whether you will need your winter woollies while you're out in the city centre.
