Hanukkah is an annual Jewish festival which takes place over eight successive days and begins at sundown. The festival commemorates the rededication of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem.
Each day the festival is observed by the kindling of lights. An additional light is lit each day on the Menorah, a nine-armed candelabrum. The ninth and additional arm, known as the Shamash, is lit each night for the purpose of lighting the other branches.
Victoria Park in Leicester holds a Hanukkah lights switch on event which takes place between 16.00-16.30.
