Manchester Christmas lights

A city centre Christmas tree lit for the festive season

The festive season arrives in Manchester on 8 November with the Christmas lights switch-on.

The city centre will not only be illuminated by the festive lights, but also by the spectacular fireworks display that will brighten the sky.

This year, Manchester's Christmas lights will be switched on by X Factor winner James Arthur and pop-rockers The Vamps.

Ashleigh and Pudsey, the first ever dog trick duo to win Britain's Got Talent, will also appear live alongside Joey, the life-sized puppet horse from the National Theatre's War Horse.

The Christmas lights will stay up in Manchester's city centre over the festive period for the thousands of Christmas shoppers to enjoy while they are finding the perfect gift for friends and family.
