Olympic Torch Relay week eight

In week eight, the torch relay will visit Weymouth and Portland where the sailing events will take place.

Week eight will see the Olympic Torch Relay cross the south coast of England, visiting Cambridgeshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Dorset.

Week eight will see the Olympic torch visit some of the largest towns and tourist areas in the UK, including:

  • Bury St. Edmonds
  • Cambridge
  • Bedford
  • Buckingham
  • Oxford
  • Maidenhead 
  • Eton Dorney Lake
  • Windsor
  • Reading
  • Winchester
  • Salisbury
  • Lyme Regis
  • Weymouth
  • Bournemouth

The torch will visit two of the Olympic venues as part of week eight, Eton Dorney and Weymouth and Portland. 

8000 torch bearers will carry the Olympic Flame through communities across the country as it makes its way to the opening ceremony of the Games. A different city each night will host an Olympic Torch Relay celebration to mark the flame reaching their town or city.

Each evening the torch relay will stop in a host city which will organise a night of celebration as the torch passes through the local community. Evening celebrations in week eight will take place in the following locations: 

  • Parker's Piece - Cambridge 
  • Luton
  • South Park - Oxford
  • Madejski Stadium - Reading
  • Hudson's Field - Salisbury
  • Weymouth Beach
  • Bournemouth Beach
