Olympic Torch Relay week five

In week five, the torch relay reaches the half way point in the tour of the UK. Celebrations will take place in Blackpool.

Week five of the Olympic torch relay will see bearers carry the Flame throughout the North East of England before working across to the Lake District, finishing the week in Blackpool.

Week five will see the Olympic torch visit some of the largest towns and tourist areas in the UK, including:

  • Sunderland 
  • Durham
  • Middlesborough 
  • Whitby
  • York
  • Kendal
  • Blackpool 

The torch will finish the week in Blackpool in Lancashire. 

8000 torch bearers will carry the Olympic Flame through communities across the country as it makes its way to the opening ceremony of the Games. A different city each night will host an Olympic Torch Relay celebration to mark the flame reaching their town or city.
