Exercise your sense of adventure in nature's original playground.
Did you realise that half of the population live only six miles from a Forestry Commission woodland? At the bigger forests there are tons of outdoor adventures just waiting to happen.
Fitness fans and thrill-seekers have lots of options. From hikes through breathtaking scenery to tough orienteering challenges, leg-burning mountain climbs and leisurely runs. For those looking for a slightly calmer paced adventure, there are plenty of meandering paths to explore.
Cyclists you can enjoy over 1,000 kms of off-road trails. Starting with wide paths suitable for tiny tots getting the hang of their first trike, to technical downhill mountain biking on world class single track. You can even try riding the Mountain Biking World Cup course at Dalby Forest in Yorkshire.
For a different kind of 'high' there's also Go Ape's award-winning tree top adventure, made up of zip wires, Tarzan swings, rope ladders and jungle-style crossings.
Several forests now have out all-terrain Forest Segways, too - a really exciting way to explore the forest.
If that isn't enough for you, why don't you try laser quest, paint balling, climbing walls, horse riding or adventure play?
