Knaresborough Bed Race - Saturday 14 June 2014, Knaresborough Castle
With a theme of 'Children's TV Characters' for the fancy dress part of the race, it's sure to be an entertaining day for all the family! 90 teams will race beds along the course in the hope of raising money for worthy causes; last year the total came close to £100,000! YHA have a number of hostels ideally situated near to the race course so that you can really make a day of it.
L'Erocia Britannia - 20-22 June 2014, Bakewell, Peak District National Park
YHA have teamed up with Visit England's year of the Bike campaign and are determined to get Britain cycling this summer! If you're a self-certified cycle-oholic, L'Erocia Britannia is the place to be this June! As well as cycling there's also plenty of fun for the family with a vast array of food, drink, unique shopping and a fun fair. Worthing International Birdman Festival - 13-14 July 2014, Worthing
Each summer, since 1971, a very special contest has been taking place. The International Birdman event, a competition for human powered flying machines. Now held in the picturesque seaside town of Worthing, entrants take it in turns taking off from a special ramp constructed on Worthing Pier. A substantial prize of £10,000 is offered for the furthest flight should a birdman achieve over a 100-metre distance. A true flight of fancy.
Hot air balloons of every colour and hue will take to the skies racing the sunrise as part of the Fiesta.Over 120 hot air balloons will take off from Ashton Court Estate at dawn and dusk, and light up the skies at night with evening balloon glows.
Over 60 YHAs will be opening their doors. Which one have you always wanted to visit and what will you see when you do?
Maybe you'll be supporting local musicians at a Battle of the Bands gig, enjoying a slice (or two) of homemade cake, or discovering a secret, stunning view. The possibilities are endless.
