Cornwall Practices trialling Healthy Outlook COPD Forecast Alert to deliver anticipatory care had an average COPD admission rate 54% lower than practices not using the service. As a result, Cornwall Primary Care Trust could save up to £300,000* a year through reduced admissions.

Healthy Outlook COPD Forecast Alert from the Met Office provides automated advanced warning telephone calls for people with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) when weather conditions increase their risk of illness. Trials in Cornwall have shown a 52% reduction in hospital admissions in practices that took part.
