Rhondda Cynon Taff teaching Local Health Board Annual Awards
Healthy Outlook® COPD Health Forecasting Alert Service won the Innovations Award in the 'Chronic Conditions' category at the Rhondda Cynon Taff teaching Local Health Board (tLHB) Annual Awards.
This annual award ceremony is held by Rhondda Cynon Taff tLHB and its partners. The Healthy Outlook® COPD Health Forecasting Alert Service, provided by the Met Office and operated by Medixine, was nominated for the award by Rebecca Edwards, Service Development Manager at Rhondda Cynon Taff tLHB as an example of a good innovation.

After several weeks of mild weather over many parts of the UK, forecasters at the Met Office predicted a short cold snap which activated the Met Office's 'Healthy Outlook' alert system.
Patrick Sachon, Health Forecasting Manager at the Met Office said: "Working with partners, the Met Office will be contacting over 6000 COPD patients across the UK, to warn them about the weather conditions and remind them what to do to stay well."

Healthy Outlook COPD Forecast Alert from the Met Office was a finalist in the Health Service Journal Awards 2007 for Improving Care with E-Technology. The awards saw a record number of entries this year.

IDC EMEA 2007 Award for ICT Innovation
Healthy Outlook® was awarded the IDC EMEA 2007 Award for ICT Innovation at the Information and Communication Technology Forum in Berlin. The award recognises organisations that have substantially improved competitiveness and business results by applying information and communication technology (ICT) to product and process innovation.
Medixine, an e-health solution provider who operate the call system on behalf of the Met Office accepted the award on behalf of the Met Office.

The Met Office Health Forecasting team have won the Innovative Services Award for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Health Forecasting at the prestigious Health and Social Care Awards 2006. The award recognises an innovative, new or improved service that benefits the delivery of healthcare for patients, users and carers.
