Europe tourist information

Europe is the world's second smallest continent, covering just fewer than 7% of the world's land surface area. Around 733 million people call Europe home, making it the third most populated continent.

The world's first railways and motorways were situated in this continent and Europe is now home to some of the busiest airports and ports. Many tourists are drawn to visit Europe, with the large majority arriving via one of the many international airports; the busiest being London Heathrow. The road and rail network is extensive across the whole of Europe making it very easy to reach your desired destination.

Some of Europe's best festivals and events include Oktoberfest in Munich which runs from September to October, offering great food and beer as well as a welcoming carnival atmosphere. Or head to Dublin on St Patrick's Day for street performances and live music. If it's more glamour you desire, then a day at the world famous Royal Ascot races in the south of England is ideal.

A sport commonly played and watched in Europe has to be football, which makes sense since Europe plays host to some of the highest paid teams around. Rugby Union is also popular in the UK, France and Italy. In countries found in northern central Europe, ice hockey is keenly supported and participated in. Sports such as tennis, volleyball and basketball are all widely played in many European countries.

Europe offers a wide range of activities to suit a vast array of tastes and interests. Paris offers many attractions including the Eiffel Tower, Disneyland and the Notre Dame, while Londonis famed for attractions such as Buckingham Palace, Madame Tussauds and the Tower of London. For a country steeped in history, look no further than Greece and its capital Athens where you can discover an ancient citadel, Acropolis.
