Tendring District Council have issued the following press release

RESIDENTS URGED TO GET PREPARED FOR THE WINTER

Residents across Tendring are being urged to be ready for whatever the winter may throw at them.

Whether there is snow, freezing cold temperatures, high winds or heavy rain people need to be prepared so they stay warm, healthy and safe.

Tendring District Council (TDC) is on the case and has joined up with a range of organisations to support the National Get Ready for Winter Campaign being staged later this month.

TDC Emergency Planning will team up with Essex Civil Protection and Emergency Management, Essex County Fire and Rescue Service, Essex Police, Tyre Safe, British Red Cross and Affinity Water to put on a special event.

It will be staged in Clacton's Princes Theatre on October 23 from 10am until 3pm and everyone is welcome to attend.

The groups attending will be giving out advice and help on a whole range of issues from clearing snow to checking tyres.

Lynda McWilliams, TDC's Cabinet Member for Customer and Central Services, said it is an event not to be missed.

"Following the success of last year's campaign it was decided to take part again and build on that success," she said.

"Being prepared for all the various eventualities will make a huge difference in how we are to cope with whatever the winter throws our way.

"It is important that we raise awareness about all the risks and their consequences - and give out some simple and straight forward advice on how to deal with all eventualities."

Cllr McWilliams said the event at the Princes is free and hopes that people will turn out and get their chance to speak with the experts.
