In this section we look at how our understanding of the weather has evolved through time, and how weather has played a key role in shaping Britain.
Weather has been a source of fascination for hundreds of years, and will no doubt continue as a favourite conversational topic for hundreds more as weather continues to affect us.
Delving into the National Meteorological Library and Archive - Open to Everyone we have found lots of interesting records of weather, dating as far back as c1200. From messages in a bottle to a Royal Proclamation, the archive gives a glimpse of how weather patterns and ocean currents were first understood, how weather terms were created and how the skill of creating weather charts and forecasting evolved.
