Detailed mountain weather forecast: Brecon Beacons

Wednesday

Weather

A mostly dry day with quite a lot of cloud around initially, perhaps enough to produce the odd spot of drizzle at higher level with occasional hill fog over the peaks. The cloud should be encouraged to break-up during the day with some good sunny spells likely later, and cloud tending to lift off the peaks. Feeling cool though with moderate northerly winds.

Visibility

Very good but peaks likely to be obscured at times, especially during the morning. Very poor in hill fog.

Hill fog

Occasional hill fog is likely above 500 metres during the morning, which should lift above the peaks by midday and onwards.

Maximum winds above 400m

North or northwesterly 30 mph.

Temperature

Valleys Plus 7 Celsius becoming plus 14 Celsius later.
800 m Plus 5 Celsius
Freezing level Above the summits.

Thursday

Weather

A much windier and colder-feeling day with some decent sunshine though in between a scattering of showers. North to northwesterly winds will become quite strong, touching gale-force over exposed peaks and ridges later in the day. Also, freezing levels will be low, and there is a chance that some showers may fall as snow over 800 metres, with a risk of hail and thunder during the afternoon.

Visibility

Very good to excellent outside of showers, which should be well-scattered.

Hill fog

No significant hill fog is expected.

Maximum winds above 400m

Northwesterly 45 mph during the afternoon.

Temperature

Valleys Plus 4 Celsius becoming plus 12 Celsius
800 m ZERO Celsius becoming plus 2 Celsius during the afternoon.
Freezing level 800 metres.

Outlook

Friday

Very windy with north or northeasterly gales possible down to low levels, with a risk of storm-force winds over highest peaks and ridges. It may also be rather cloudy with some showery outbreaks of rain, and occasional hill fog brushing the peaks. Freezing levels will be just around the peaks, so some of the precipitation could be wintry here with a risk of severe wind-chill.

Saturday

A much improved day with much lighter winds than on Friday, and a chance of some good sunny spells. Just a low risk of a shower developing during the afternoon. Feeling less-cold with the much lighter winds and sunshine, but freezing levels may still be hovering only just above the peaks.

Sunday

Chance of a cloudier day on Sunday with some isolated showers around, and light northwesterly winds. Freezing levels may have risen a little by this time.
