Forecast summary

Regional forecast for South West England

Bright with sunny spells, though rather cold.

Today:

After a cold and frosty start for many, it will be a bright day with plenty of sunshine, although with patchy cloud likely in parts of Devon and Cornwall. Despite the sunshine it will be a chilly day. Maximum Temperature 5 °C.

Tonight:

Patchy cloud over parts of Cornwall will keep frost away, but clear spells elsewhere will give a widespread frost and possibly a few fog patches. Minimum Temperature -2 °C.

Saturday:

On Saturday it'll be another bright but cold day with patchy cloud and sunny spells across the region. Maximum Temperature 6 °C.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Mostly settled with some bright spells. A few showers possible on Sunday, otherwise largely dry. Cold with overnight frosts, and a risk of persistent fog early next week.

It will be a frosty start across Wales and central and southern England, with a cold and sunny day in store. Some sunshine for northern Scotland but generally cloudy in other parts of the north.

Tonight:

Cold and frosty across the UK, with clearing skies across northern England and Northern Ireland. A few fog patches likely. Cloudier across Scotland, with some parts staying frost-free.

Saturday:

Outlook for the UK over the next 6-30 days

UK Outlook for Tuesday 24 Jan 2017 to Thursday 2 Feb 2017:

On Tuesday and Wednesday most places should be dry with sunny spells, although there is a risk of fog at times in the south. It will be windier in the west with outbreaks of rain gradually moving east. Temperatures will be quite cold for many, but milder later in the west. During the rest of the period, milder, unsettled conditions are expected to affect most of the country. Bands of rain will cross the country, interspersed with brighter, showery interludes. It will become windy with gales likely at times, especially in the north-west. The heaviest rain is likely in northern and western areas, with drier conditions in the south-east. Temperatures should be around average to mild, although there is a low chance of the south-east keeping colder than average conditions.

UK Outlook for Friday 3 Feb 2017 to Friday 17 Feb 2017:

Looking ahead to the start of February confidence is fairly low. However, the most likely scenario is that Atlantic low pressure systems will continue to bring spells of wet and windy weather to all at times, though this will be interspersed with drier and brighter interludes. Temperatures will generally be around average for this time of year, though with occasional milder spells associated with the unsettled weather. It looks increasingly likely that an area of high pressure will begin to become dominant again towards the middle of February, bringing more settled conditions with the return of overnight frost and patches of fog, although the chance of very cold conditions developing is low.
