Forecast summary

Regional forecast for Northern Ireland

Cloudy, becoming windy on Tuesday with outbreaks of rain.

This Evening and Tonight:

A mainly dry evening with clear spells and just a few showers around the coasts. Clear periods inland will lead to a widespread frost. Thicker cloud will bring more frequent showers from the north later tonight, wintry on the hills. Minimum Temperature -1 °C.

Tuesday:

Cloudy with some showery rain, this starting off as sleet or snow on the hills. Strengthening northwesterly winds, perhaps reaching gale force in the west for a time. Maximum Temperature 8 °C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Rather cold with bright and sunny spells and some showers, wintry at times. Some local snow cover at times especially at night and on high ground. Night frosts.

UK forecast for the next 5 days

Cold tonight with wintry showers continuing.

This Evening and Tonight:

Showers will continue for many overnight, with sleet and snow over higher ground and to lower levels at times. It will be much colder than recent nights, with a widespread frost and a risk of ice forming on untreated surfaces.

Tuesday:

Staying unsettled, with showers possible throughout the day, sometimes merging into longer spells of rain and becoming wintry over higher ground. Very windy at times, particularly near western coasts.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Mainly bright in the north with showers, occasionally wintry. Bands of rain and strong winds moving east across central and southern areas, interspersed with some brighter, drier spells.

Outlook for the UK over the next 6-30 days

UK Outlook for Saturday 4 Mar 2017 to Monday 13 Mar 2017:

An unsettled picture is likely as frontal systems move into the UK from the south or southwest, bringing wet and windy weather at times. Snow is likely over northern hills, with a low risk of some snow more widely at times across the north. Between frontal systems, there should be some spells of brighter weather with showers which may be wintry at times in the north. Nevertheless, some brief quieter, drier spells are also likely. Temperatures will generally vary around normal for the time of year, often slightly above average in the south but rather cold at times in the north, with night frosts. There remains the possibility of a more widely settled but colder period, perhaps giving wintry showers in the east and north.

UK Outlook for Tuesday 14 Mar 2017 to Tuesday 28 Mar 2017:

For the rest of March signals are weak and confidence is low. It will probably be rather unsettled with spells of wet and windy weather at first, interspersed with brighter and showery conditions. Some snow is also possible across the north of the UK. There should, however, also be some drier and brighter spells, where we may see some local frost and fog at times overnight. Temperatures are expected to be around normal for the time of year. However, there remains the possibility of seeing some prolonged colder periods, with a chance of snow in places. This is more likely later in the period.
