Forecast summary

Regional forecast for South West England

Dense fog slowly clearing to sunny spells.

Today:

Cold and frosty to start with dense freezing fog, particularly in the east, which may be slow to clear and even linger in places. Otherwise there will be sunny spells which will help temperatures recover in the west. Maximum Temperature 11 °C.

Tonight:

Fog will re-form in places through the evening, although this will not be as widespread and there will be some clear spells. This will bring another cold and frosty night. Minimum Temperature -1 °C.

Wednesday:

Any fog should then clear on Wednesday leaving a dry day with variable amounts of cloud. However, it will turn breezier making it feel colder. Maximum Temperature 9 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Cold and windy on Thursday and Friday, with sunny spells by day and frosts overnight, although perhaps some rain reaching the west of Cornwall. Dry and less windy on Saturday.

UK forecast for the next 5 days

Dense fog in the south, damp and breezy further north.

Today:

Dense freezing fog will be slow to clear across parts of southern England and Wales, but away from this it'll be cold with sunny spells. Scotland and Northern Ireland will be cloudier, breezier and milder with light rain at times.

Tonight:

Locally dense fog will re-form across eastern and southern England. Elsewhere, variable cloud will give patchy frost for some, whilst northern England and north Wales may see some light rain.

Wednesday:

Staying cold and dry across England and Wales with fog slowly clearing southern parts to give some sunshine. Milder and windier in the north-west with rain affecting the Hebrides later.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Colder and windier for all on Thursday and Friday, with sunny spells by day and frosty nights. Winds easing into Saturday with showery rain, mainly in the north and west.

Outlook for the UK over the next 6-30 days

UK Outlook for Sunday 29 Jan 2017 to Tuesday 7 Feb 2017:

We are likely to see a gradual change to more unsettled conditions across the UK early next week, with outbreaks of rain, heavy at times, affecting northern and western parts, where it'll be mild and windy with gales possible in the north-west. Staying drier in the east and south-east, where some cold nights remain possible. Similar conditions are likely as we move through into the first week of February. Bands of rain will probably cross the country, interspersed with brighter and showery interludes. Windy at times, with gales likely in the northwest. The heaviest rain is also likely across northern and western parts. Temperatures are likely to be mild into the start of February, however there is a chance that the southeast may be drier and colder at times.

UK Outlook for Wednesday 8 Feb 2017 to Wednesday 22 Feb 2017:

At the start of this period the most likely scenario is for more unsettled weather with wet and windy spells interspersed with brighter and showery interludes. This would bring gales at times, especially in the northwest. Temperatures are likely to be slightly above normal for the time of year. South-eastern parts may well stay drier and brighter. From the middle of February, confidence in the forecast reduces but there is a possibility that high pressure will return, bringing more settled weather with lighter winds. As a result, temperatures may become colder at times, with overnight frost and fog again possible.
