Regional forecast for East Midlands

Mostly dry. Cloudy in the north, brighter in the south.

A cloudy start in the north with hill fog and some spots of drizzle. Clearer skies further south frost and fog patches in the morning. Sunshine and colder conditions will spread north to all parts through the day. Maximum Temperature 6 °C.

Tonight:

Clear skies through the evening and overnight will allow a frost to form widely. Mist and fog patches are also likely to develop in prone spots. Minimum Temperature -2 °C.

Saturday:

A mostly bright, frosty start with fog patches slowly clearing. Cloud will gradually arrive with some light rain or hill snow by afternoon. Still some bright spells in the south. Maximum Temperature 5 °C.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Rather cloudy on Sunday with some brighter spells developing later. Some bright spells Monday and Tuesday but fog developing overnight and lingering through the day for some. Overnight frosts throughout.

It will be a frosty start across Wales and central and southern England, with a cold and sunny day in store. Some sunshine for northern Scotland but generally cloudy in other parts of the north.

Tonight:

Cold and frosty across the UK, with clearing skies across northern England and Northern Ireland. A few fog patches likely. Cloudier across Scotland, with some parts staying frost-free.

Saturday:

Mostly settled with variable cloud and some bright spells but staying dry for most. A few drizzly showers are likely across central parts though, possibly turning wintry on high ground.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Mostly settled. Some light showers on Sunday. Cold and frosty overnight, fog likely in the south on Monday and Tuesday, perhaps slow to clear. Unsettled in the north-west later Tuesday.

UK Outlook for Wednesday 25 Jan 2017 to Friday 3 Feb 2017:

Many should continue to be dry on Wednesday, however there is the risk of some fog particularly in the south where winds are light. Elsewhere, winds will strengthen and outbreaks of rain will slowly spread into the west during Thursday, perhaps with some snow across northern hills before temperatures gradually turn less cold. This continues into the weekend marking a change to unsettled weather through this period with bands of rain crossing the country, interspersed with brighter and showery interludes. It will be windy at times, with gales likely in the north-west and the heaviest rain is also likely across northern and western parts. Temperatures will be close to normal or occasionally mild for late January, however there is a low chance that the south-east could stay drier and colder.

UK Outlook for Saturday 4 Feb 2017 to Saturday 18 Feb 2017:

Into the start of February, confidence in the forecast reduces, however the most likely scenario is for a continuation of the unsettled weather with wet and windy spells interspersed with brighter and showery interludes. This will bring gales at times, especially in the north-west and temperatures will be close to or slightly above normal for the time of year. From the second week of February there is an increased likelihood for high pressure to return, bringing more settled weather with lighter winds and a return of overnight frost and fog. As a result, temperatures may become colder at times although the chance of very cold weather developing is considered to be low.
