Forecast summary

Regional forecast for North West England

Cold and mostly cloudy, turning brighter in the south.

Today:

Most places will have a dry but rather cloudy day, and it will be feeling chilly. In southern parts of the region, the cloud will begin to clear with sunny spells breaking through. Maximum Temperature 8 °C.

Tonight:

The cloud will continue to move northwards this evening, leaving most places with clear skies. This will cause temperatures to drop quickly, leaving a cold and frosty night. Minimum Temperature 0 °C.

Saturday:

Saturday will be a much brighter day with many places seeing sunshine. Despite this, it'll be feeling cold, with cloud increasing through the afternoon. Maximum Temperature 6 °C.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Cloudy initially, but settled with brighter spells developing from Monday. A few light showers possible on Sunday, perhaps wintry on hills. Cold with overnight frosts.

Outlook for the UK over the next 6-30 days

UK Outlook for Wednesday 25 Jan 2017 to Friday 3 Feb 2017:

Many should continue to be dry on Wednesday, however there is the risk of some fog particularly in the south where winds are light. Elsewhere, winds will strengthen and outbreaks of rain will slowly spread into the west during Thursday, perhaps with some snow across northern hills before temperatures gradually turn less cold. This continues into the weekend marking a change to unsettled weather through this period with bands of rain crossing the country, interspersed with brighter and showery interludes. It will be windy at times, with gales likely in the north-west and the heaviest rain is also likely across northern and western parts. Temperatures will be close to normal or occasionally mild for late January, however there is a low chance that the south-east could stay drier and colder.

UK Outlook for Saturday 4 Feb 2017 to Saturday 18 Feb 2017:

Into the start of February, confidence in the forecast reduces, however the most likely scenario is for a continuation of the unsettled weather with wet and windy spells interspersed with brighter and showery interludes. This will bring gales at times, especially in the north-west and temperatures will be close to or slightly above normal for the time of year. From the second week of February there is an increased likelihood for high pressure to return, bringing more settled weather with lighter winds and a return of overnight frost and fog. As a result, temperatures may become colder at times although the chance of very cold weather developing is considered to be low.
