Regional forecast for Dumfries, Galloway, Lothian & Borders

Bright spells and wintry showers.

Today:

A mainly dry and bright start with sunny spells. However, a scattering of wintry showers will develop, these heaviest and most widespread across Lothian and Borders in the afternoon. Feeling cold in freshening northwest winds, gales possible in the Solway. Maximum Temperature 9 °C.

Tonight:

Wintry showers mostly dying out with clear spells leading to a widespread frost. However, further wintry showers possible over East Lothian and the eastern Borders overnight. Windy around the coast. Minimum Temperature -2 °C.

Tuesday:

Remaining cold with bright spells and wintry showers. Winds will be moderate to fresh from the north, but strong around the coast. Maximum Temperature 9 °C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

The winds will ease and the showers well scattered on Wednesday with bright or sunny spells. Bright with occasional showers Thursday and Friday and temperatures beginning to recover.

UK forecast for the next 5 days

Becoming much colder with wintry showers.

Today:

Dry with sunny spells in the south but outbreaks of rain over central areas will move south followed by colder conditions. Windy with wintry showers for the north-west, more persistent for a time, with snow possibly to low levels.

Tonight:

Clear spells and wintry showers spreading down the east and west coasts. Widespread frost inland and staying windy in the north.

Tuesday:

Sunny spells and scattered wintry showers, with a risk of hail and thunder and snow over the hills in the north, at least. Breezy everywhere with gales in the north.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Sunshine and further showers on Wednesday, some wintry. Patchy rain moving south-eastwards on Thursday, then mainly dry on Friday. Becoming less cold with frost less widespread.

Outlook for the UK over the next 6-30 days

UK Outlook for Saturday 29 Apr 2017 to Monday 8 May 2017:

Saturday is likely to be mainly dry and bright with temperatures less cold than recently, though it will still be rather cool for the time of year. However, rain is likely overnight in the far north and west and this may well spread across the rest of the UK on Sunday, with the best chance of drier weather in the east. There may be some further rain around on Bank Holiday Monday, but also some drier and brighter spells. As we move into the first week of May, we're expecting more settled weather to become established, with temperatures rising significantly giving us a warm week, perhaps very warm in some parts. The dry and settled weather is likely to last to the end of this period.

UK Outlook for Tuesday 9 May 2017 to Tuesday 23 May 2017:

High pressure appears more likely to be dominant in the second week of May meaning that below average rainfall is most probable during this time. However, there is a chance of less settled conditions at times, especially across southern and southwestern areas. Temperatures are likely to be above average for the time of year with a chance of some very warm weather at times, with limited risk of frost. The forecast for the third week is less certain, though on balance, we might expect these settled and warmer than average conditions to continue.
