Forecast summary

Regional forecast for Dumfries, Galloway, Lothian & Borders

Mostly dry but cloudy.

Today:

A mainly cloudy day but most places should remain dry, although again the odd spot of drizzle is possible over the hills. The best chance of any brighter conditions will be along the Forth Estuary. Winds remain light. Maximum Temperature 9 °C.

Tonight:

A mild evening with some mist and spots of rain over higher ground. Turning colder by the end of the night with some clearer skies developing, particularly in the west. Minimum Temperature 2 °C.

Saturday:

An occasionally cloudy start with some fog patches. Cloud then thinning and breaking to allow plenty of sunny intervals, although slower to clear the eastern Borders. Maximum Temperature 8 °C.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Mostly dry with only light spots of rain. Variable amounts of cloud with the best chance of bright or sunny spells likely to be on Monday. Becoming breezier on Tuesday.

Tonight:

Cold and frosty across the UK, with clearing skies across northern England and Northern Ireland. A few fog patches likely. Cloudier across Scotland, with some parts staying frost-free.

Outlook for the UK over the next 6-30 days

UK Outlook for Wednesday 25 Jan 2017 to Friday 3 Feb 2017:

Many should continue to be dry on Wednesday, however there is the risk of some fog particularly in the south where winds are light. Elsewhere, winds will strengthen and outbreaks of rain will slowly spread into the west during Thursday, perhaps with some snow across northern hills before temperatures gradually turn less cold. This continues into the weekend marking a change to unsettled weather through this period with bands of rain crossing the country, interspersed with brighter and showery interludes. It will be windy at times, with gales likely in the north-west and the heaviest rain is also likely across northern and western parts. Temperatures will be close to normal or occasionally mild for late January, however there is a low chance that the south-east could stay drier and colder.

UK Outlook for Saturday 4 Feb 2017 to Saturday 18 Feb 2017:

Into the start of February, confidence in the forecast reduces, however the most likely scenario is for a continuation of the unsettled weather with wet and windy spells interspersed with brighter and showery interludes. This will bring gales at times, especially in the north-west and temperatures will be close to or slightly above normal for the time of year. From the second week of February there is an increased likelihood for high pressure to return, bringing more settled weather with lighter winds and a return of overnight frost and fog. As a result, temperatures may become colder at times although the chance of very cold weather developing is considered to be low.
