Regional forecast for North West England

Storm Doris brings wet and windy weather

This Evening and Tonight:

A band of rain from the west will spread across the region this evening. This will clear in the early hours when strong winds will develop; these strengthening close to gale force in coastal areas by dawn. Minimum Temperature 3 °C.

Thursday:

Severe gales will bring disruption on Thursday morning with a squally band of rain moving eastwards. Brighter spells in the afternoon, but snow expected for the Pennines and Cumbrian hills. Maximum Temperature 10 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

It's a settled picture for Friday with some sunny spells and lighter winds. It will turn wetter and windier once again through the weekend with only a few brighter moments.

Storm Doris brings a period of very unsettled weather

This Evening and Tonight:

A broad band of rain will spread across much of the UK with persistent heavy rain particularly in Northern Ireland. Significant snowfall is likely for northern England and Scottish borders, with south-western areas becoming very windy in the early hours.

Thursday:

Storm Doris will bring widespread gales to England and Wales, these severe in central areas and exposed coasts. Squally showers further south, and significant snowfall for the Scottish borders.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Feeling cooler but drier Friday with bright spells, rain arriving in the west later. Turning more unsettled with further rain particularly in the northwest, and strong winds over the weekend.

Outlook for the UK over the next 6-30 days

UK Outlook for Monday 27 Feb 2017 to Wednesday 8 Mar 2017:

A fairly unsettled picture is likely at first, as further weather systems affect the UK from the Atlantic. Showery spells could affect many areas, particularly in the north-west where these may be thundery at times and could bring snow to higher ground, and even lower levels further north. Milder, cloudier weather is likely to be more prevalent further south and east at first, but all areas are likely to turn colder by the mid-week with an increasing risk of overnight frost. The changeable Atlantic influence is likely to remain in place as we go into March, with cloudy spells accompanied by rain and strong winds at times, falling as snow further north. There is a smaller likelihood of more settled conditions with overnight fog and frost by early March.

UK Outlook for Thursday 9 Mar 2017 to Thursday 23 Mar 2017:

For March there is a fair amount of uncertainty, but the weather is most likely to be unsettled at first. There will be spells of wet and windy weather, interspersed with brighter and showery conditions with some snow possible across the north of the UK. There will, however, also be some drier and brighter spells, particularly in the south and east where we may see some local frost and fog at times overnight. Temperatures are expected to be around average for the time of year but there remains a small chance of seeing a more prolonged cold spell, if settled conditions were to develop more widely. This is more likely later in the period.
