Forecast summary

Regional forecast for East Midlands

Murky, with low cloud and locally persistent mist and fog.

Today:

Murky and cold, with extensive low cloud, mist and some freezing fog. Given light winds, these conditions may persist in many areas throughout the day, with only limited brighter intervals developing as temperatures languish in single figures. Maximum Temperature 7 °C.

Tonight:

Mist and fog should reform widely to give another murky night, perhaps with the odd spot of rain. It will be milder than recently, with near double-figure temperatures in places. Minimum Temperature 5 °C.

Wednesday:

Mild but grey, however the developing breeze should progressively lift areas of mist and fog, perhaps eventually developing some breaks to give some limited late brighter intervals. Maximum Temperature 12 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Much milder, with frost not expected and daytime temperatures comfortably into double figures. It will be rather windy throughout with spells of rain, before perhaps brightening up generally later Saturday.

Tonight:

Staying cloudy overnight and dry with some clear spells for northern England and Wales. Rain and strong winds continue to affect Northern Ireland and Scotland. Staying frost free for many.

Wednesday:

Outbreaks of rain will erratically spread southwards, although many will remain dry. Remaining cloudy, with some sunshine developing through the afternoon for central England. Windy in north. Mild for all.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Remaining unsettled with outbreaks of rain at times, mainly in the north and west, where it will also be windy. Drier and bright interludes are likely, particularly on Saturday. Mild.

Outlook for the UK over the next 6-30 days

UK Outlook for Saturday 10 Dec 2016 to Monday 19 Dec 2016:

It is likely to be cloudy with spells of rain across southern and south-eastern parts of the UK on Saturday. The rest of the UK should be brighter with blustery showers. During the rest of the weekend and into the following week, further periods of wet and windy weather are expected to move across the UK. The most unsettled conditions are likely across the north and west with drier and brighter weather for southern and eastern areas. By mid December there should be some longer, drier spells between the wet weather, with a gradual change to something a little more settled. It will also be fairly mild initially but temperatures are likely to return closer to normal, with an increasing risk of overnight frost.

Updated at: 1226 on Mon 5 Dec 2016

UK Outlook for Tuesday 20 Dec 2016 to Tuesday 3 Jan 2017:

Whilst there is a good deal of uncertainty, it is most likely that high pressure is going to become more dominant through the end of December, and so the weather should be more settled across the UK. If the pressure does build, then we can expect drier than average conditions for most areas with lighter winds. Temperatures are also then likely to be below average with an increased risk of frost and fog, especially where skies remain clear overnight. As we head into the New Year there is the potential for the weather to become more unsettled again.
