Forecast summary

Regional forecast for North East England

Rain clearing this evening, then dry, clear and frosty.

This Evening and Tonight:

Outbreaks of rain, sleet or snow across the south of the region will clear during the evening, to leave long clear spells which will allow a widespread frost to develop. Icy patches are also likely to form on untreated surfaces. Minimum Temperature -2 °C.

Wednesday:

After a frosty but dry and largely sunny start cloud will increase, bringing a few showers. The showers will be mainly across The Pennines, and perhaps wintry at times. Maximum Temperature 8 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Breezy with a mixture of sunshine and showers at first, becoming cloudier with more persistent rain later although winds easing. Chance of snow over higher ground at times, feeling cold.

UK forecast for the next 5 days

Cold tonight with some icy stretches.

This Evening and Tonight:

Showers easing for most, aside from the north of Scotland. A chilly night for many with a risk of some icy stretches forming, mainly in the north. Rain arrives in the far south-west towards dawn.

Wednesday:

Band of rain spreading north through southern and central parts, but mostly dry with sunshine and the odd shower elsewhere. Turning windy in the south-west later with gales likely.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Unsettled in the south with rain and strong winds, but sunshine and showers further north. Cold in the north with overnight frosts. Milder in the south.

Outlook for the UK over the next 6-30 days

UK Outlook for Saturday 4 Mar 2017 to Monday 13 Mar 2017:

An unsettled picture is likely to continue. Frontal systems will move into the UK from the south or southwest at first, bringing bands of rain and strong winds at times, mainly across southern and central parts. Into the second week of March, the wet and windy weather will mainly affect northern and western areas, with snow over the hills at times. The best of the drier and brighter weather will start to develop across the south and east. Temperatures will generally vary around normal for the time of year, often slightly above average in the south but rather cold at times in the north, with night frosts. There remains the possibility of a more widely settled but colder period, perhaps giving wintry showers in the east and north.

UK Outlook for Tuesday 14 Mar 2017 to Tuesday 28 Mar 2017:

For the rest of March signals are weak and confidence is low. It will probably be rather unsettled with spells of wet and windy weather at first, interspersed with brighter and showery conditions. Some snow is also possible across the north of the UK. There should, however, also be some drier and brighter spells, where we may see some local frost and fog at times overnight. Temperatures are expected to be around normal for the time of year. However, there remains the possibility of seeing some prolonged colder periods, with a chance of snow in places.
