The day will start rather cloudy with frequent showers, wintry on higher ground. Showers becoming less in number in the afternoon and confided across Northwest Highlands. Very windy morning with severe gales in north, easing through the day. Maximum Temperature 6 °C.

Tonight:

Showers clearing from most areas away from Caithness, with some clear spells in the evening. Cloud and some rain and hill snow arrives across southern areas overnight. Minimum Temperature -2 °C.

Thursday:

Cloudy start with rain and snow, this clearing east through the morning. Scattered heavy wintry showers for the rest of the day. Strong winds developing in west. Cold. Maximum Temperature 3 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Scattered wintry showers on Friday. Cloudy Saturday with rain this heavy and persistent across the Highlands. Showery weather on Sunday. Occasionally windy.

UK forecast for the next 5 days

Wet and very windy at times over the coming days.

Today:

Very windy in the north at first, with a scattering of showers persisting through the day. Fine and mostly dry across northern England, Northern Ireland and southern Scotland. Meanwhile, cloudy skies prevailing further south, accompanied by outbreaks of rain.

Tonight:

Turning windy from the south overnight as cloud and rain, heavy and at times persistent, gradually spreads north-eastwards, turning to snow across parts of Scotland and northern England.

Thursday:

Very windy with a stormy spell across central parts. Rain for many at first, with heavy snow for northern hills, clearing to showers later, these wintry in places.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Occasional showers Friday, allowing sunny spells for some. Rain and strengthening winds arriving later, spreading eastwards through Saturday. Meanwhile, cloud and outbreaks of rain spreading northwards on Sunday.

Outlook for the UK over the next 6-30 days

UK Outlook for Monday 27 Feb 2017 to Wednesday 8 Mar 2017:

A fairly unsettled picture is likely at first, as further weather systems affect the UK from the Atlantic. Showery spells could affect many areas, particularly in the north-west where these may be thundery at times and could bring snow to higher ground, and even lower levels further north. Milder, cloudier weather is likely to be more prevalent further south and east at first, but all areas are likely to turn colder by the mid-week with an increasing risk of overnight frost. The changeable Atlantic influence is likely to remain in place as we go into March, with cloudy spells accompanied by rain and strong winds at times, falling as snow further north. There is a smaller likelihood of more settled conditions with overnight fog and frost by early March.

UK Outlook for Thursday 9 Mar 2017 to Thursday 23 Mar 2017:

For March there is a fair amount of uncertainty, but the weather is most likely to be unsettled at first. There will be spells of wet and windy weather, interspersed with brighter and showery conditions with some snow possible across the north of the UK. There will, however, also be some drier and brighter spells, particularly in the south and east where we may see some local frost and fog at times overnight. Temperatures are expected to be around average for the time of year but there remains a small chance of seeing a more prolonged cold spell, if settled conditions were to develop more widely. This is more likely later in the period.
